OF STUDY
COMPUTERIZED ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST 900 Hours The accounting program provides training for entry-level accounting/bookkeeping positions, such as general bookkeeper, accounts receivable or accounts payable clerk, payroll clerk and others. With experience, students may qualify for promotions to such positions as junior accountant or head bookkeeper. This well-rounded program has additional courses in Business Law, Computer Applications, Cost Accounting, and Taxes and Financial Statement Preparation. [back to top]
COMPUTERIZED ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN 600 Hours This is a study of manual and computerized accounting systems and related skills to prepare students for entry into the modern business environment. Upon completion of this program, students will understand the accounting process and perform the journalizing of business transactions using the double-entry system. Students will be capable of completing the accounting cycle--trial balance, adjusting entries, worksheet, and financial reports. Students will understand special journals--sales, purchases, and combined, as well as accounts payable/receivable. Students will understand the legislations related to payroll; learn how to calculate and keep payroll records; and make timely, accurate, federal deposits. [back to top]
INFORMATION SYSTEMS SPECIALIST 900 Hours This program includes in-depth, hands-on word processing and computer skills. Students will receive an entry-level working knowledge of the most up-to-date computer programs such as WordPerfect 6.0, Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Access and Windows. In addition to the information-processing courses, the student will gain a breadth of knowledge applicable to today's business world. [back to top]
INFORMATION SYSTEMS SPECIALIST LEGAL EMPHASIS 900 Hours Students will learn legal terminology and will develop familiarity with spoken legal terms. They will have experience working with the most common legal reports and will become adept at legal machine transcription. These skills are reinforced by the use of a practice set, which gives students the opportunity to perform basic legal secretarial activities including the formatting of legal papers. [back to top]
INFORMATION SYSTEMS SPECIALIST MEDICAL EMPHASIS 900 Hours Medical word processing is designed to provide training and experience for students preparing for positions as medical secretaries and assistants in automated offices. Intense courses in medical terminology provide the student with the basic medical language that health care professionals use when communicating with each other. [back to top]
MASSAGE THERAPY Upon completion of this program, the student will qualify to sit for the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. By passing this exam, the student will then be eligible for Licensure as a Massage Therapist in the State of Connecticut and also to be Nationally Certified. This status allows potential employers to know the skill level of the graduate and makes them eligible to be employed in a facility that deals with massage therapy. A strong knowledge of anatomy & physiology, pathology, kinesiology, therapeutic massage, spa services, medical and sports massage is necessary to be proficient as a massage therapist. This program provides training in essential areas for this specialty such as medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, computer fundamentals, and legal issues of the profession. [back to top]
MEDICAL ASSISTANT 1200 Hours The Medical Assistant program is a timesaving, career-focused program designed to prepare the student to be well-rounded and able to assist the health care professional in a variety of administrative and clinical procedures. Medical Assistants can work in physicians' offices, clinics, medical research laboratories, hospitals, medical schools, pharmaceutical companies, and many other areas of the medical field. MEDICAL BILLING & CODING SPECIALIST 900 Hours Upon completion of the Medical Billing & Coding Specialist program, the student will qualify to be employed in a facility that handles billing for medical services. A strong knowledge of medical codes and insurance is necessary to be proficient as a specialist. This program provides training in essential areas for this specialty such as medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, computer fundamentals, and legal issues of the profession. Among other positions, the graduate will qualify to be a medical examiner rating clerk, coding file clerk, hospital insurance clerk, or patient insurance clerk.
NETWORKING & COMPUTER TECHNICAL SUPPORT Days - Six 6 Week Modules • Evenings - Six 7.5 Week Modules 900 Hours The Networking and Technical Support Specialist program provides students with hands-on experience in computer operating systems, networking, software applications, network hardware and maintenance, computer hardware and maintenance, help desk, internet, and Visual Basic programming. The operating systems include Windows 3.11, Windows 95, Windows 98, NT/Workstation and Novell. Students will be prepared to support end users and programmers in business environments and have experience operating computers and peripherals. Networked computer environments permit users to share information and equipment through a collection of data communications hardware, computers, communications software, communications media and applications software. This will enable students to successfully become employed in various size companies. [back to top]
WORD PROCESSING SPECIALIST 600 Hours In-depth, hands-on word processing experience combined with communications and office skills provides students with a well-rounded education in preparation for word processing positions, as well as a variety of office career positions. Students may elect to pursue courses in database management and electronic spreadsheeting, or they may elect legal or medical courses to give them training for entry-level positions in legal or medical offices.
